Pine Bluff Out Played
Bethune-Cookman 31, Arkansas-Pine Bluff 17

The Golden Lions fell to 0-2 on the season as they found themselves on the tail end of a 31-17 decision against Bethune-Cookman.   After a Bethune-Cookman defensive score, UAPB’s John Pierce found Myron Jefferson for a 24-yard pass play to make the score 7-6.  John Heflin’s 45-yard field goal gave UAPB a 9-7 lead early in the second quarter.  However, Bethune-Cookman ran off 24 unanswered points garnering a 31-9 lead late in the fourth period.  Martell Mallet scored on a four-yard run and the subsequent two-point run by Jonathan Moore served as the final score of the game.

The Golden Lions tallied 283 yards of total offense (137 rush, 146 pass) while Bethune-Cookman had 249 yards of offense (155 rush, 94 pass).  Three turnovers (two interceptions and one fumble) led to 17 points for Bethune Cookman as improved to 2-0 on the season.

For Arkansas-Pine Bluff (0-2, 0-1 SWAC), Tony Joseph had 72 rushing yards on 22 carries while John Pierce completed 8-of-15 passes for 94 yards and a score.  Justin Bass and Clarence Fuller had a team-high nine tackles in the game.
