Jags Offense Still has Problems
8/23/02
The Southern Jaguars have a very big problem on their hands. Their all so powerful offense is can't get any thing done during the scrimmages.

The scrimmage started of with a three and out by the offense. It consisted of two dropped passes and a penalty. New offensive coordinator David Oliver is optimistic about the offense and says the things are correctable.

"What beat Southern tonight on offense was Southern? Penalties, missed assignments and dropped balls. If we get that corrected, we'll be something to deal with on offense."

The jags offense seem to haven't got the penalties out of their system from last Saturday's scrimmage.

"There are not a bunch of great calls for second-and-25 and third-and-25." said Oliver on the penalties.

Head coach Pete Richardson who teams are known for their discpline is very upset over the current situation.

"We're still making some stupid mistakes, and that comes from mental concentration," Richardson said. "We made some plays. We saw some improvement offensively, but we're self-destructing ourselves with penalties. Those are coachable. We've got to hound on in. We have to improve on the little things to be a good football team."

The good news is in way is the most playmakers for the Jags were sidelined with nagging injuries. Wideout Michael Hayes only saw limited action due to the coaches holding down his reps.

The offense will need to iron out their problems before entering the contest with Tulane or last years score will be a blessing compared to this years.
