Band Report

SU Jukebox makes TSU feel it!
11/17/03 by Veronica Baker

First, the Jukebox arrived at Robinson Stadium during the second quarter for reasons unknown (bad traffic, maybe?) but the minute they seated themselves in the stands, they began to play “I Like the Way You Move” and immediately had to get ready for the halftime show.

Southern’s halftime routine was relatively short in comparison to other shows they’ve given.  They began with “Under Pressure” then played their classic “Working Day and Night” for the Dancing Dolls performance.  Later, the band went into box formation and performed four more of the most popular songs this season including “Get Low” and the “Jiggalator”.

Texas Southern entered the field with their junior drum major (a boy around four or five years in age) and performed “Friends”.  After the Motion of the Ocean danced, the junior drum major came back onto the field and did a dance routine with the other senior drum majors.  That was the real highlight of their performance.

The real battle of the band began after halftime when each band tried to out perform each other with Michael Jackson singles.  TSU played “Leave Me Alone” and “PYT” but it wasn’t over. The game was tied until under two minutes in the fourth quarter and Southern’s punt return ran the ball all the way in for a touchdown claiming the win for Southern University.  After the touchdown, SU played “Can You Feel It” which was very appropriate because at that time, TSU had to feel the hurt of that touchdown.  (Ouch!)
