Are the Jags Championship Bound? Head Coach Pete Richardson has dodged two possible losing seasons just by out coaching opposing teams. The Jaguars are always disciplined and rarely get 15 yard penalties. This same discipline may help the Jags win the Bayou Classic over Grambling State University and land them in the championship game. The biggest weapon on the team is returning receiver Michael Hayes. Hayes was injured last year in the first game of the season and was granted medical red shirt. Look for quarterback Quincy Richard to use the height and jumping ability of Hayes for post and corner routes. Richardson's defense makes the Jags the most solid team in the SWAC. The only task Southern has this year is to break in new offensive coordinator David Oliver. The former tight ends coach from Tulane University says the tight end position will be a big part of the offense this year. Oliver will also keep the no-huddle offense in the place. This signature Jaguar offense will be a problem early in the season due to learning new signals from the sidelines and making misreads that may prove to be costly to the Jags early in the season. The keys to winning for the Jags is to hold the turnovers down, pass the ball to Hayes, and rush for over 1,500 yards total for the year. Predicted season: 7-4 (Loses: Tulane University, Northwestern State, Jackson State, Alcorn State) |
